HDX Drives for Debut of Merlo Podlewski

Los Angeles, CA, December, 2007 - Top engineer/mixer Robert Carranza recently completed the debut album by Merlo Podlewski, best known as bass player in Jack Johnson‘s touring and recording band. “I first discovered Avastor at Ocean Way Recording,” recalls Carranza. “We needed a drive and just bought what they had in stock. I was hesitant, because I had been having so many drive failures, but now they are my work drive. I have three of their HDX-800s.”

Carranza is widely known and respected for his work with such artists as Los Lobos, Ozomotli, Jack Johnson, Beck, Eels, Molotov, and Supergrass. Merlo Podlewski‘s new “J RADIO” is his first record as an mc/producer. He describes the sound as “a blend of film scores, beats and 60s psychedelica. It‘s in the spirit of Jean-Luc Godard‘s 1960 movie Breathless, as a Hip-Hop video with Jean-Paul Belmondo as an mc. Lyrically, the themes are in the spirit of Blade Runner, Fistful of Dollars and Le Samorai. Existential outlaw rhymes.”

Carranza commented further on the Avastor drives, “I love the fact that Avastor has a built-in power supply, with no walwart. I‘ve got a suitcase full of walwarts at home and I can‘t throw them away because I know there will be a day when I need one. I also like the Avastor Lockbox, which makes the drives super-transportable. I actually dropped a Lockbox once and my heart fell to the floor, but when I opened it up and turned it on, it worked like a charm.”

Podlewski‘s new album is scheduled for February release on an imprint of Jack Johnson‘s Brushfire Records label, coinciding with Johnson‘s new album release.
