Dennis Sands Mixes Music Score at Paramount Pictures

Hollywood, CA, February, 2008 – Renowned trumpeter, producer, and composer Mark Isham has completed the score for “The Express” at Ocean Way‘s Stage M on the Paramount Pictures lot. Dennis Sands served as scoring mixer for the film‘s numerous orchestral dates.
“The Express” was directed by Gary Fleder and stars Dennis Quaid, Rob Brown, and Charles S. Dutton. Based on a extraordinary true story, “The Express” follows the life of college football hero Ernie Davis (Rob Brown), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Raised in Pennsylvania coal-mining country, Davis overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles to become an unstoppable running back for the Syracuse Orangemen, under the guidance of coach Ben Schwartzwalder (Dennis Quaid).
Following his draft by the NFL, tragedy struck the star athlete and he was never able to take the professional field. But his tale would forever change the face of professional sports. Davis would develop from an impressive high-school athlete into a legend.
Few thought this quiet young man would become an icon for the burgeoning civil rights movement dividing America in the early 1960s. Refusing to play by the unspoken racist rules of the day, Davis broke through one barrier after another. Davis would join the ranks of black pioneers who inspired a movement that smashed barriers on and off the playing field.
From Davis Entertainment, the Universal Pictures film will be released later this year.

Chatsworth, CA, February 4, 2008–Globalstor Data Corporation, premier OEM Integrator of high performance RAID, SAN and storage/video servers, is pleased to introduce its new ExtremeStor-DI Tower workstation, a compact version of Globalstor‘s signature ExtremeStor-DI server line.
Optimum for uncompressed HD/2K capture and playback, the ExtremeStor-DI tower is a scaled down, cost-effective digital intermediate workstation that mirrors the functionality and architecture of its big brother. The sleek dual Quad Core tower-based workstation is built for easy installation and equipped with 10 Fault tolerant hot swappable SATA drives that can support a wide range of RAID levels including RAID 5.
“As a data storage solutions developer and provider, Globalstor Data Corporation recognizes that there are various degrees of needs and services among today‘s post production industry,” says Globalstor Data Corporation President Scott Leif. “The ExtremeStor-DI Tower is the ideal system for post production facilities that are in need of high-quality HD 2K capture, playback and color correction applications but do not require the abundance of drives offered within our ExtremeStor-DI server line. Like the ExtremeStor-DI server, the ExtremeStor-DI Tower shares in its robust design, but presents it in a smaller, lightweight, portable system that allows it to be marketed at an affordable price point.”
While the ExtremeStor-DI Tower offers a cost-effective alternative option, Leif says the new product proves efficient in many other ways. “The ExtremeStor-DI Tower comes with a cost of .001 tenths of a cent per megabyte, making it one of the lowest cost per Gigabyte solutions available in today‘s industry,” says Leif. “Its versatility and portability enables digital intermediate facilities to enhance their quality of service and productivity in a time effective manner, which is achieved by providing HD ready storage at on-site film locations that can go directly back to the edit bay within the same day. This allows editors improved management and content processing, making digital dailies a breeze.”
With capacities ranging from 2.5TB to 10TB, the ExtremeStor-DI Tower integrates Dual Intel® Xeon® or AMD Opteron™ Quad Core processors for maximized computing power that can deliver up to 600Mb/sec of sustained data throughput in RAID 5. It is compatible with Windows XP™ or Windows 2003 open platform operating systems on a RAID protected boot disk drive. In combining the ExtremeStor-DI Tower hot-swappable disk drives, you achieve a well-equipped solution for safeguarding against downtime and critical data loss.

SANTA CLARA, CA, February 5th, 2008 – On Jim Lauderdale‘s 2008 Grammy-nominated album, “The Blue Grass Diaries,” producer, engineer and recording artist Randy Kohrs cut through the mix with Lauten Audio‘s Horizon tube microphone. The Horizon was used exclusively on fiddles, all of the second guitar overdubs, and female harmonies.
“On the female harmonies, the Horizon helped the soft voices cut through the hard hitting vocals of Jim and me without having to eq all the body out of them,” said Randy Kohrs. “For me, that‘s a lot of finite eq work I never have to do with the Horizon tube microphone. On the fiddle, it helped the lower sweet, woody tones speak through a barrage of mid-range instruments, like the banjo and resonator guitar, and brought out the clarity. Aaron Till said he had never heard his fiddle so well recorded. The Horizon is a complete studio work-horse built to stand the grueling test of time. I could not ask for more in a microphone.”
Jim Lauderdale is a multi-talented performer and songwriter in both country and bluegrass music, and with the highly successful release of “The Bluegrass Diaries,” he continues to make his mark in both genres. His career has taken him all over the world, enriching his ever-growing fan base, and his music has been recorded by artists ranging from George Strait to George Jones. Contributing their talents to “The Blue Grass Diaries” are Jesse Cobb on mandolin, Richard Bailey on banjo, Jay Weaver on bass, Cody Kilby on guitar, Randy Kohrs on resonator guitar and harmony vocals, Aaron Till on fiddle, Ashley Brown and Cia Cherryholmes on vocal harmonies, among other special guests.
“When I heard about the Grammy nomination, I was extremely happy for Jim and Randy,” said Brian Loudenslager, founder of Lauten Audio. “The diverse usage of the Horizon on the album further solidifies what we have said all along about this microphone‘s incredible versatility.”
The Horizon tube microphone is Lauten Audio‘s first commercially available product, with three new studio models to follow this year. Designed as a work-horse, the Horizon is solidly built and features an NOS military grade tube, custom wound output transformer and high-resolution electronics. The mic is available in dealers throughout the United States and Canada, as well as other parts of the world.

~Zak Rizvi and Brother Zahik Win Best Feature At FAIF ~
BETHLEHEM, PA, FEBRUARY 4, 2008 – A childhood dream has become a reality for Zak Rizvi, chief of production at StarCity Recording Company, and his brother Zahik, who recently earned the Best Feature Award at the Foundation for the Advancement of Independent Films‘ (FAIF) 2007 Festival for The River on Randolph Street. The film, produced by the Rizvi brothers along with partner Babak Naghi, marks the first time in the history of the FAIF festival that a short film has been granted the Best Feature Award.
The Rizvi brothers have a passion for filmmaking. While both pursued professional careers, their desire to create award-winning films has transpired into a reality. Zahik, who is a pilot for a major U.S. airline, wrote, directed and edited the film with no formal education or training, only years of hands-on experience. His brother Zak, who has over 20 years of professional production experience, was the only choice to handle the composition and post production on the project.
“I gave Zak complete creative freedom in terms of sound design,” says Zahik. “I knew he understood my vision for this film. His ability to create the perfect mood and feel through the music and effects is an enormous part of its success.”
Zak handled all aspects of the film‘s audio post production, creating and recording original music as well as sound effects and foley at StarCity Recording Company‘s Studio Z. As the original field sound was rendered unusable due to excessive ambient noise, it was completely reconstructed in the studio. The score, covering nearly all of the film‘s 18-minute running time, was created with a highly detailed “virtual” orchestra. The final stereo and 5.1 mixes were completed in StarCity‘s state-of-the-art Studio A.
“It is a huge honor to win the Best Feature Award for a short at FAIF,” says Zak. “StarCity‘s support of this project has been amazing and I wouldn‘t have been able to accomplish this without them.”
The River on Randolph Street depicts a weekend trip to Las Vegas that leads down a dark road of desperation, where a chance encounter with a stranger yields one last game-a game where the stakes are eternal. It is the second short to be released by the Rizvi brothers‘ Snowblink Productions, a company committed to creating films on limited budgets that evoke the look and feel of large productions. The River on Randolph Street is screening on the 2008 festival circuit, and will be distributed throughout Europe by Glimz.net-it‘s next scheduled showing is April 30th 7:00PM at the New Filmmakers Film Festival in New York City. Snowblink Productions is currently preparing its next project: a full length feature entitled Anywhere America. To find out more, visit www.snowblinkproductions.com.
A world-class facility located in Bethlehem, PA, StarCity Recording Company offers clientele more than 50 years of combined professional recording experience and the state of the art in 5.1 surround sound.
