DESTINATION IMAGINATION D2K.7 PROJECTS LOUD AND CLEAR WITH WORXAUDIO

Knoxville, TN - March 2008… Destination ImagiNationŽ, the world‘s largest creative problem solving program for kids, recently completed its Global Finals. As the culmination of the creativity competition year, the Global Finals brings team winners representing their state, their province, or their country to compete together at the annual international creative problem solving tournament, which this year–and, hence, the d2k.7 designation–was held at the University of Tennessee‘s Neyland Stadium. With approximately 30,000 people in attendance, Destination ImagiNation was in need of a potent sound reinforcement system, and they found it in the form of a sizeable line array setup comprised of loudspeakers from WorxAudio Technologies.

Sound Ventures, a live events company with offices in Nashville, TN, Knoxville, TN, and Los Angeles, CA was contracted to provide sound for Destination ImagiNation d2k.7. The company, which handles sound, video, LED walls, and backline for a wide range of events, flew twin clusters (one on each side of the stage) consisting of twelve WorxAudio TrueLine V10-PMD3 line array elements. Underneath each suspended loudspeaker array, there were four TrueLine TL.218SS subwoofers, and ground stacked off to the far left and right sides were two additional loudspeaker clusters–each with six TrueLine V8-PMD1 line array elements. For onstage monitoring, the Sound Ventures crew placed six WorxAudio Ultramax M1-P floor monitors.

According to Scott Grimsley, CEO of Sound Ventures and a pro audio veteran with more than twenty years experience, “Destination ImagiNation is a huge event that required a sizeable sound system. “Neyland Stadium is a 100,000 plus capacity football stadium. For d2k.7, we were asked to cover an audience of 30,000 positioned around the north end zone. The combination of the twenty-four flown V10‘s and the twelve ground stacked V8‘s–all positioned on the 30 yard line–gave us the horizontal and vertical coverage required for this project with almost nonexistent reflections to create a dramatic soundscape.”

The WorxAudio TrueLine V10-PMD3 is a self-powered, three-way line array module with a transducer complement consisting of dual 8-inch cone transducers for the midrange coupled with a large format, 3-inch high frequency (HF) compression driver, and twin 10-inch cone transducers for the bass. Slightly smaller in size is the TrueLine V8-PMD1, a two-way, self-powered line array module with a transducer complement consisting of a large format 3-inch compression driver and dual 8-inch cone transducers.

The TrueLine TL.218SS Sub Bass System employs two of WorxAudio‘s legendary TL1801SS 18-inch low frequency transducers in a tuned port enclosure. The WorxAudio Ultramax M1-P can be used both as a speaker system or stage monitor. This versatile loudspeaker–with equal angles (for floor positioning) that enables them to be used as stereo pairs–consists of a 3-inch diaphragm large format compression driver coupled with a single 12-inch low frequency driver in a tuned enclosure.

When asked why his company chose equipment from WorxAudio Technologies for this event, Grimsley offered the following, “WorxAudio loudspeaker systems provide terrific, distortion-free sound quality with excellent vocal intelligibility. The build quality of these systems rivals any other leading manufacturer in the industry, and the flyware design is well thought out– the system goes up in the air quickly. We‘ve been particularly impressed with the reversible fly bar, which enables a perfect contour for our ground stacked applications, and this is always a challenge with line array systems.”

Grimsley was equally enthusiastic about WorxAudio‘s customer and technical support services. “In recent years, we‘ve expanded our inventory and have made a transition from competitor‘s systems, and throughout this period, WorxAudio customer support has been outstanding. It‘s nice to be able to not only deal with a competent support staff, but to also have a great dialogue with the actual system designer. The entire experience has been fantastic. WorxAudio makes great product with a long serviceable life–providing great return on your investment.”

Before turning his attention back to his company‘s forthcoming projects, Grimsley reflected on the Destination ImagiNation event. “It‘s always a challenge pulling off a multi-day outdoor event of this scale, and we were thrilled to be part of this important endeavor. The entire d2k.7 production support team was outstanding, and once again, the WorxAudio equipment performed flawlessly.”
