SonicPool Opens “Superior” Room for HD Finishing Including 2K and 4K Capabilities

1-dmn-mm-mix_small.JPG

Hollywood, CA, Aug. 5, 2008 – SonicPool, one of Hollywood’s leading post facilities, specializing in audio and video finishing, edit suite rentals, and full post-production services, has opened its new “Lake Superior” Room. In keeping with bays that have “Aquatic/Nautical” themed names, “Superior” offers its clients Avid DS-HD services for 2K, 4K and HD Finishing. The announcement was made by John Frost and Patrick Bird, co-founders, SonicPool, who said, “Many of our clients are finishing their projects in Avid Symphony HD and Final Cut Pro HD already, so we felt now was the time to invest in “Superior” so we could to continue to fulfill that growing demand.”

“Superior” has a 16 foot Sony SXRD HD Projection system, a DS Nitris Dual Boot system and 5.1 Surround Sound, with true 4:4:4 technology and 5 terabytes of storage. HD Online Editor Jason Yanuzzi is the lead online editor and colorist for “Superior.”

Initial SonicPool projects which have been HD Finished in “Superior” include:

** “Wonderful World:” This long anticipated film explores interracial romance and stars Matthew Broderick as a bitter, divorced man who marries an African woman. Written and directed by Joshua Goldin.

** “Frontiers” Trailer: For client After Dark Productions, SonicPool did HD finishing for this trailer promoting a horror film about a young woman who looks to escape her abusive life by moving to her family’s farm near Atlanta. Unfortunately, she learns her place of supposed comfort offers more terrifying forms of abuse.

** “Chain Letter:” For writer/producer/director Deon Taylor and his Deon Taylor Enterprises, SonicPool did the audio mix and the HD finish for “Chain Letter.” The film explores the fact that death, evil and fear have long surrounded the secret history of chain letters, a few of which have stayed alive across time and generations with terrible warnings that force recipients to ask: If I break the chain, will something bad really happen?

** “The Hustle:” Again for Deon Taylor Enterprises, SonicPool worked on this film about a couple of two-bit hustlers who decide they’re ready for their next challenge. They stumble upon an idea for the greatest con ever: starting a church so they can rake in all the parishioners’ fine money.

ABOUT JASON YANUZZI:

“Superior” is under the watchful eye of Jason Yanuzzi, who has previously onlined other feature length films, including “On The Doll” and “Isolated.” From 2003-2004, Yanuzzi was a Video Editor originally hailing from CNBC TV. There, he edited a variety of TV programs and was also responsible for color correction, video QC and the editing of various segments, reporter packages, and teases from raw footage. Regarding “Superior,” Yanuzzi says, “The room is just fantastic, and it’s incredibly helpful to have such a big projection system that is so capable of pointing out minute errors which would be easy to miss on a much smaller monitor.”

API 1608 CONSOLE - A HIT AT ITALY’S FUNKY JUNK

1608_funkyjunk.JPGMILAN, ITALY - AUGUST 2008: After fewer than ten years in the pro audio retail game, Italy’s Funky Junk has risen to the top as Europe’s most respected dealer for consistently supplying the highest quality new and used gear. Founded and run by distribution-specialist Paolo Orizio and renowned sound tech Manlio Amorelli, with over fifty years combined pro audio experience, Funky Junk began distributing all-analog API gear almost from the start. API continues to be one of their most successful lines, a fact that inspired the purchase of an all-new API 1608 console as a demo unit for their Milan-based showroom.

Commented Orizio, “Our customers have always loved API, although it’s hard to separate how much of that is due to our overwhelming enthusiasm for the API sound. We never hesitate to recommend API!” Orizio observed that the way people make music has changed, with project studios centered on DAWs replacing the traditional studio. “In these situations, a truly powerful and honest-sounding analog console can make all the difference. With our 1608 in the showroom, we can let our clients feel and hear API’s quality. It’s one thing to read a story about API, but turning those solid pots with your own fingers and hearing that indescribable sheen and authenticity with your own ears truly convinces.”

In less than two months, Funky Junk sold two 1608 consoles - a 32-channel unit to Starlight Studio in Naples and the standard version to Music Priority in Milan.

The API 1608 incorporates the company’s discrete electronics topology and is built to the same exacting standards as the flagship Vision and Legacy Series consoles. The standard 1608, with sixteen input channels, eight buses, eight aux sends, eight reverb returns and full center section facilities, includes a dozen 550A three-band equalizers and four 560 ten-band graphic EQ modules with space available for eight additional 500 Series modules.

Automated Processes, Inc. remains the leader in analog recording gear, with the Vision surround production and Legacy Series recording consoles, the DSM Series rack-mounted mixers, and the classic line of modular signal processing equipment.

SENNHEISER EMPLOYEES BAND TOGETHER FOR CHARITY

OLD LYME, CONNECTICUT - AUGUST 2008: Even with the rising cost of gasoline, food, and other necessities, Sennheiser Electronic Corporation (SEC) employees created a smart charity program entitled “SECares,” allowing their fellow co-workers to continue supporting good causes. Sennheiser, a Germany-based manufacturer of high-quality microphone and headphone solutions, maintains U.S. headquarters in Old Lyme. This voluntary program provides an easy way for its approximately 130 employees to contribute any monetary amount, large or small, to two well-known charities throughout the year.

Starting in August, Sennheiser will offer contribution programs for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and United Way. The program collects donations via a payroll deduction, making it easier for employees to support valuable causes without seeking out multiple organizations or writing several checks. It also allows associates to amass a sizeable contribution at the end of the year, no matter how much they give each pay period. Plus, employees’ donations will make an even greater impact as the company will match one hundred percent of all contributions.

“Charity initiatives have always been important to our employees,” John Falcone, president and CEO, said. “I am pleased to see such generous spirit at Sennheiser.”

Sennheiser Electronic Corporation is no stranger to charitable actions. This year, the company donated ten percent of the sales of each Sennheiser CX 300-Pink headphone directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. As a result, Sennheiser contributed $15,000 toward a cure for breast cancer.

In addition to making donations as part of the SECares program, Sennheiser employees will also raise funds this fall at the Light the Night Walk at Harkness Park in Waterford. The walk, which will be held on September 24, is celebrating its ten-year anniversary. Organizers hope to raise $630,000 toward leukemia and lymphoma research and family support.

The SECares charity initiative was spearheaded by the company’s Employee Activities Committee. Established in 2006, the committee is part of a core group of employee-headed teams that can actually make a difference in the workplace. Others include the Green Team, which evaluates and suggests new methods of operating that reduce the company’s carbon footprint, and the Human Resources Committee, which assesses and recommends corporate policies.

SENNHEISER Sennheiser is a world-leading manufacturer of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems. Established in 1945 in Wedemark, Germany, Sennheiser is now a global brand represented in 60 countries around the world with U.S. headquarters in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Sennheiser’s pioneering excellence in technology has rewarded the company with numerous awards and accolades including an Emmy, a Grammy, and the Scientific and Engineering Award of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
