Nashville, TN and Los Angeles, CA, October 1, 2008 – Randy Wachtler, founder/president, 615 Music, has been named Chairman of The Production Music Association (PMA,) which promotes and protects the rights and interests of publishers and composers of music for use in film, television, radio and new media. Concurrently the PMA has also elected APM Music President Adam Taylor to the post of Vice Chairman.
Former Production Music Association Chairman Mike Dowdle, CEO of Non-Stop Music Holdings, resigned for personal reasons and will relocate abroad. Dowdle is one of the founding members of the non-profit Production Music Association, which was created in 1997. “We’re all sorry to see Mike go, but we’re happy for this next exciting chapter of his life, said Mr. Wachtler. “I look forward to working with Adam and our new Executive Director, Debra Krizman, and continuing our efforts to promote the interests of the production music community.
In other 615 Music news, the company has just produced a new song for KHOU-TV in Houston, in conjunction with that city’s rebuilding process after the devastation of Hurricane “Ike.â€? The new song, entitled “We Stand by You,â€? was written by Gary Burr and Michaela Griffin, with vocals by Greg Barnhill and Kim Parent, and was produced by Randy Wachtler and Aaron Gant for 615 Music.
The touching lyrics to “We Stand by You are:
“IN THE DARKEST HOUR IS WHEN THE TRUTH SHINES THROUGH
JUST TEST OUR SPIRIT, YOU’LL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO.
HOUSTON TO GALVESTON, THE WOODLANDS TO
BOLIVAR TO SUGAR LAND AND ALL OF YOU.
DON’T GIVE UP! WHEREVER YOU ARE,
WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER, IT’S TRUE.
CHANNEL ELEVEN – WE STAND BY YOU.
FEEL THE SPIRIT OF TEXAS IN ALL THAT WE DO.
WE’RE RIGHT HERE TO HELP YOU GET THROUGH.
CHANNEL ELEVEN – WE STAND BY YOU.â€?
Regarding the new song, Dale Locket, Creative Services Director for KHOU-TV, said, “I’ve worked with Randy and 615 Music on a number of different campaigns over the years. He and his team of writers and producers just did a fabulous job of hitting that emotional connection we were trying to achieve with our ‘We Stand by You’ Campaign. Channel 11’s tagline is the ‘Spirit of Texas,’ and with the new ‘We Stand by You’ song, 615 Music was able to give us the exact right spirit we wanted to convey both through the music itself, and paired along with the lyrics. This piece was just a true homerun for us–words can’t express my gratitude to Randy and his team in helping us deliver that optimistic feel. We wanted to reassure our viewers after Hurricane Ike, and this new music campaign goes a long way in that effort.â€?

Santa Monica, CA, Sept. 30, 2008 – A world renowned creative collective for over 28 years, Elias Arts, a company devoted to music composition, strategy and production, has just delivered original music for two new, high profile Audi TV spots. The announcement was made today by Ann Haugen, Executive Producer/GM, Elias Arts.
The two new Audi spots are “Living Room (60-sec and 30-sec) written by Nate Morgan and “Separation (30-sec) written by Jonathan Elias and Kenny Segal. The spots can all be seen at:
Elias Arts’ client for the Audi spots was Venables Bell & Partners in San Francisco. Craig Allen, Executive Producer of the spots for Venables Bell, said “Since there was no voice-over in these spots, we saw this as an opportunity to make the music as much of a star as the visuals. We wanted tracks that played against type and would captivate the viewer with a unique sound. I’ve worked with Jonathan Elias for years, and knew he and his team would come up with tracks that would be surprising, enchanting and memorable. They did not disappoint. As a testament to the power of this music, we have even had several consumer request for these tracks, and the name of the artists responsible for them!
In “Living Room, we watch through time lapse photography as a beautiful home’s living room becomes more modernized with new furniture, accessories, and a new Audi in the driveway. The spot’s slogan says, “The entirely new Audi A4. Progress is Beautiful. In “Separation, “ an Audi A4 drives in slow motion on a race track, leading a pack of other luxury cars behind it, including a Mercedes Benz, a BMW and Lexus. The Audi crosses the finish line first.
Dave Gold, Elias Arts’ Creative Director for the Audi spots, said, “For ‘Living Room,’ our goal was to combine orchestral instrumentation along with contemporary rhythms and voices, to create an organic/classical musical feel. We wanted to mirror, through music, the visuals, which were a depiction of standard luxury, which slowly evolves into a more contemporary, modern luxury. Starting with just piano and strings, portraying an older luxury feel, we expanded the music with more traditional elements, mixing, recording and filtering them, to ultimately deliver a more than traditional, yet still contemporary/modern feel—a musical evolution of luxury.
Gold adds, With the ‘Separation’ spot, the viewer sees a ‘captured moment’—a slow motion millisecond—during an acceleration performance of an Audi car. While the viewer sees this fraction of a second, the music we created matches the visual, suspending the viewer for a brief moment in time, with a ‘release’ at the end. Our focus with this musical accompaniment was to tie into this extremely short moment, suspended in time.

The versatility of Turbosound loudspeakers has been recently proved yet again, with the company’s Chinese distributor Phoenix Audio & Lighting Technology Ltd supplying equipment to three very different establishments in two of China’s most important cities.
The Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Nanjing Agricultural University are two of the region’s major seats of learning. Phoenix Audio has supplied a wide range of TCS and TXD series loudspeakers in three locations for installation by Ao-bang Audio And Lighting Engineering.
In the theatre of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Ao-bang installed a system comprising TXD-081 and TXD-151 full range cabinets, TXD-218 subs and TXD-12M wedge monitors.
Meanwhile at Nanjing Agricultural University, the company installed six TXD-151 in the Academic Hall and, in the university’s Multi-function Hall, a range of TXD and TCS Compact loudspeakers, with control by Turbosound LMS-D24 processors.
They are the first Turbosound products to be installed in either University, the TXD range being particularly suited to all three installations as the loudspeakers combine excellent sound quality with portability, meaning they can be utilised for different events and spaces throughout the campuses, if required.
“With the TXD range, one series offers all the models you need for a wide range of installations and uses, says Shirley Zhuang of Phoenix Audio.
“From main front-of-house speakers to balcony fills and monitors, they are easily installed. But they are also extremely portable. It is a cost-effective solution for a wide range of applications and, with the excellent sound quality that Turbosound is renowned for, the universities are very happy with the audio performance and stability of the systems.
In Shanghai, Turbosound loudspeakers have been installed in a very different environment – at Malone’s, a Western-themed bar and live music venue, which has been thriving for 13 years.
Specified and installed by 2A3 Audio Technik, the venue’s new sound reinforcement system comprises TCS-56 full range enclosures and TXD-218 subs, controlled by an LMS-D24 processor.
“The system was chosen because of Turbosound’s reputation for sound / build quality and cost effectiveness, says Shirley Zhuang.
“Zane, the stage tech manager of Malone’s, thinks only Turbosound could offer such clear and pure mid-high sound performance in this price category of loudspeakers.
“In addition, the Canadian manager of the venue simply says that the Turbosound system is ‘GREAT!’ They have used a different manufacturer’s loudspeakers for other venues but now they are seriously looking at using more Turbosound loudspeakers for their future ventures.
Named in honour of the late Tony Gottelier, PLASA08’s Gottelier Award was presented to digital mixing console manufacturer DiGiCo’s Technical Director, John Stadius.
Stadius’s association with the company spans three decades. In 1978 he joined Soundtracs plc, the company which DiGiCo purchased in 2002, initially designing disco consoles, mixers, power amplifiers and loudspeaker. In more recently years, he has taken digital mixing consoles to a new level by developing the first, and only, consoles based around a single FPGA engine – the SD7 launched at PLASA07 and the SD8, launched at this year’s show.
PLASA states that award recognises innovative developers who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the equipment and tools that enable entertainment technology practitioners to continually push the boundaries of event production, presentation and installation. Both Stadius and DiGiCo are proud that the industry has recognised his efforts and achievements.
“I’m very pleased to have won the award, says Stadius. “It isn’t just recognition of what I’ve achieved personally, it’s recognition of what we have achieved as a team in the R&D department.
“John has driven this technology way beyond what anyone else has achieved so far, adds DiGiCo’s Managing Director, James Gordon. “John and his team built their first DSP engine in 1993, other companies are still using the same technology today, but he has gone not just one, but several steps further with our new products.
“John is not just a DiGiCo designer, he’s a member of the audio community and the fact that the audio community has looked back at him and recognised what he has done is significant.
“It’s a great achievement for both John and the company and we are immensely proud of him.
About John Stadius
1978 joined Soundtracs PLC (previously called Soundout Laboratories) designing disco consoles, mixers, power amplifiers and speakers
• 1979 – Progressed to designing a range of band amplification equipment under the Frunt brand name, including guitar amps, speakers and small mixing consoles
• 1980 – Became Technical Director
• 1980-1994 – Continued to design a wide range of analogue mixing consoles for various applications including: live, broadcast and recording
• 1982 – Designed the company’s first digitally controlled analogue mixing console. From hereon in digital control played a large part in Soundtracs product range
• 1996 the first fully digital console was released – The Virtua
Following the success of Virtua, Stadius was instrumental in designing the company’s first large format digital console, the DPC-II. This product became the basis of all digital products launched to date.
In 2002, the company was bought by DiGiCo UK Ltd. Stadius used his experience in digital consoles to create the first truly live digital console, the D5. Continuing with the Sharc processor technology, he expanded DiGiCo’s digital portfolio to include the DS00 for post and broadcast, the D5T for theatres and the D1 for the live arena.
Alongside these designs, Stadius and his great R&D team continued looking at new solutions in digital audio processing. This culminated in the creation of ‘Stealth Digital Processing’. In a radical move, Stadius departed from the conventional DSP approach and developed a digital system based on one single large scale FPGA. The first product to use this technology was the SD7.
