“This promotion represents an excellent opportunity to give customers a chance to own a more complete system. At dbx we strongly believe in fostering long-term relationships with our customers and we take pride in being able to offer these types of deals to them. There has never been a better time to purchase a compressor from the company with pioneered their development over 30 years ago. stated Jay Woolley, marketing director, portable PA for dbx.

The dbx 266XL and 166XL have become known as the premier compression and gating solutions with a world-class heritage. Most compressor/gates provide less than musical compression, coupled with gating that swallows transients or closes early, cutting off decay and reverb tails. The superb engineering in the 266XL and 166XL ensures that both their compression and gating provide versatility and excellent sonic performance in situations where other compressor/gates typically produce undesirable processing artifacts.db10_direct_box_righ_242109.jpg

The dbx dB10 Direct Box is ideal for audio professionals with its extraordinary audio performance, superior electronic components, and incredibly rugged construction. The dB10 is a small “bullet-proof box that converts unbalanced line-level signal to balanced mic-level output and allows users to connect their guitar, bass, or keyboard directly to a sound mixer without losing tone due to impedance mismatches, long cables or cycle hum. It helps musicians be sure that the sound from their instrument reaches the mixing console balanced and noise-free. The dB10 has been designed – both inside and out – to sound great while handling the grueling abuse direct boxes take on stage and when used by audio professionals.

The dbx dB10 Direct Box, MSRP of $129.95, is offered free to all US customers that purchase a 266XL or a 166XL from an authorized dealer or retail outlet during the offer period. Customers are required to pay only the shipping cost ($7.95) of the free merchandise. Salaam Baalak Places Trust In The Soundcraft® Si3 Console

The Soundcraft Si3 console is gaining momentum all over the world and most recently has seen a sharp increase in popularity in India, fast becoming the console of choice for a variety of notable concerts and events in one of the fastest growing countries for live entertainment.

The most recent application of an Si3 was provided by Dhawan Electricals Pvt. Ltd. at a fundraiser in Delhi, organized by The Salaam Baalak Trust, a charitable organization dedicated to the welfare and education of under-privileged children in India.

The crowd of invitees was entertained with styles ranging from Rock and Jazz to traditional Indian, Fusion and Bollywood music by artists including Rene Singh, Sonam Kalra, Shibani Kashyap, Mrigya & Indian Ocean.

According to Yogesh Dhawan, of Dhawan Electricals Pvt. Ltd., who mixed at the front of house position for the evening alongside Sameer Kriplani, who mixed the Si3 for Indian Ocean, “For the event, we used 32 channels on the Si3 and all of its four Lexicon effects and the console’s compressors and gates were also used to a great extent.

“The sound of the Si3 is perfect. You have easy access to all of the controls and parameters and the OLED screens are as clear as the audio, Yogesh added. “The price point, user interface and inclusion of Harman’s Lexicon processing makes this console a very popular choice for riders on Indian events and we think both the Si3 and Si2 will become favorites here in India.

Additional Harman components in the main PA system included JBL SRX725 loudspeakers controlled through a dbx DriveRack® 4800 processor.

Soundcraft Vi6™ On Tour Down Under at New Zealand’s Hottest Summer Concerts

College Hill Productions, Ltd. a leading sound rental company based in Auckland, New Zealand, has recently selected a Soundcraft Vi6 digital console for its versatility and robust design, making it an ideal selection for mixing a diverse lineup of summer concerts and music festivals throughout New Zealand. The most recent tour, ‘Big Day Out 2009’ took place in Auckland, New Zealand and hosted a number of world-renowned artists including, Neil Young, My Morning Jacket and The Prodigy. Director of College Hill Productions Ltd. Chris Tate founded the company in 1996 and is responsible for introducing the first Soundcraft Vi6 to New Zealand.

The versatility of the Vi6 is demonstrated as the console has been consistently deployed by College Hill for its ability to operate at both FOH and monitor positions for large events such as Auckland’s Big Day Out Festival and the Parachute Music Festival. Large festivals in New Zealand, similar to festivals around the world, pose countless challenges and Chris Tate claims the Vi6 overcomes those challenges very well. “The console has been out on tour non-stop all summer and the engineers required a board that had a very fast turnaround time in between shows. Tate continues, “The Soundcraft Vi6’s capabilities also helped us in a couple of other ways including a few instances where the console was almost a kilometer away in a broadcast compound and the fiber connection to the stage box was very effective.

Chris Tate and the College Hill Productions engineers have taken full advantage of the digital console’s capabilities and Tate has streamlined his mixing abilities with the Vistonics™ interface. “Vistonics are simply an analog console shelved neatly away and ready to be mapped out exactly where you are touching, comments Tate. “If you have been used to mixing with the controls right in front of you, a la analog consoles, then you are used to being able to do things without having to stop and consciously look through the manual. The Vi6 is actually faster than analog, which is something that I thought I would never say about digital, Tate concludes.

The majority of College Hill’s work consists of American and British performances that tour only two or three shows in New Zealand before moving onto to different countries. This rapid transition of performances is difficult for the College Hill engineers, as they are required to set up and prepare for multiple native shows each week requiring a digital console that is capable of saving shows, and mixing for a wide range of genres.
