Debut of 8260A Monitors Demos New Stereo-to-5.1 Process

At this year’s AES Convention in NYC, Genelec’s DSP Multichannel Monitoring System was used to demonstrate the new Penteo Surround process, which automatically converts stereo material into 5.1 audio. The Genelec system consists of 3 x 8260A monitors (a new AES product unveiling) in an L-C-R arrangement, 2 x 8240A for the rear channels, and a 7270A subwoofer. Penteo Surround is featured in the hit film “Inglourious Basterds,” with classics such as David Bowie’s “Cat People” in newly upmastered 5.1 Surround.

Genelec’s Will Eggleston commented, “The Penteo system maintained the original frequency spectrum flawlessly.   It was great to hear some of those old recordings expanded out all around the listening field.”
