LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – MAY 2010: TransAudio Group, the U.S. distributor for TRUE Systems is now shipping the PT2-500 mic pre and DI. TRUE Systems continues its contortionist legacy of packing immense-sounding microphone preamplification into tiny spaces. Descendant of the TRUE Systems Precision 8, which squeezes eight audiophile-grade preamps into a single rack space, the PT2-500 conforms to the modular 500 Series format. Like all the other preamps in the TRUE Systems family, the PT2-500 delivers stunning detail, rich analog depth, and a robust, reliable design. But the PT2-500 is 500 module sized, for audio professionals who want everything in a rack ready to use, over and over again, without buying additional power supplies and multiple racks. more
GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA – APRIL 2010: Danley Sound Labs, a manufacturer of innovative loudspeakers and subwoofers of uncommon fidelity, SPL, and directivity, announces the introduction of two new molded horn loudspeakers – the SM-60M and SM-60F – at InfoComm 2010. Both units feature Tom Danley’s patent-pending synergy horn technology. The SM-60F delivers full-range content, whereas the SM-60M delivers mid- and high-frequency content only. more
GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA – MAY 2010: Danley Sound Labs, a manufacturer of sound reinforcement’s most innovative products, is introducing the TH-118 at InfoComm 2010. The unit joins Danley’s family of patent-pending tapped horn subwoofers, delivering uniquely flat, low, and powerful bass from relatively lightweight, compact enclosures. The TH-118 modifies Danley’s popular TH-115 subwoofer with an 18-inch driver that adds even greater output to a format that is already famous for generating big sound from a little package. This is an ideal solution for sound reinforcement or fixed installation for corporate A/V, clubs, ballrooms, theaters, performing arts centers, houses of worship and more. more

ORLANDO: Jim Van Winkle, former director of regional services for the Masque Sound Corporate Theater Division, has rejoined the firm as General Manager of its Orlando, Fla. based Professional Wireless Systems division.
Van Winkle cut his pro audio teeth as shop manager for Sound Associates in NY from 1978 -’87, while simultaneously serving as sound mixer and electrician with the original Broadway production of “CATS.’ He began his relationship with Masque Sound while loading the show into the Winter Garden Theater. He also served as house mixer for Radio City Music Hall during that period. Van Winkle later toured as FOH and Monitor Mixer for both Harry Belafonte and Lena Horne. more
LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK – MAY 2010: House Recording Studios on Long Island is a relatively recent addition to New York’s shifting studio landscape. With impeccable design by esteemed acoustician Frank Comentale, House Recording makes good on the often-promised but seldom-delivered combination of professionalism, comfort, and inspiration that are the hallmarks of a great facility. Not long ago, a Bock 195 FET large diaphragm condenser joined the studio’s enviable microphone collection. It has since been used, almost without rest, on everything from vocals to acoustic guitars to room tone to clarinet. more
TAMARAC, FLORIDA – MAY 2010: The Palace Theatre for the Performing Arts is part of the Kings Point condominium complex in Tamarac, Florida, a community of some 8,000 over-55 residents just north of Fort Lauderdale. Its season runs from November to March, complementing the snowbirds’ yearly migration from points too cold for comfortable living in those months. The theatre books A-list acts such as Tony Orlando, Peter Nero, and Pat Cooper and seats 1,000 people without a single stair. Its acoustics are excellent, with appropriately upholstered seats, no parallel walls, and judicious wall treatments. The Palace Theatre’s sound system was passable, but hardly excellent, until the recent addition of an Ashly ne8800 8×8 DSP and a long-deserved alignment. more

ATLANTA, GEORGIA -MAY 2010: The Atlanta Braves’ AAA affiliate, designated the Gwinnett Braves, recently moved from Richmond, Virginia to Gwinnett County, Georgia, and, in so doing, moved into a new $45 million stadium. Coolray Field seats some 10,000 fans in stands that wrap from left field to right field. An additional picnic area beyond the outfield wall adds to that number. To deliver a functional, yet cost-effective audio system, the ball club hired local A/V design/install firm Baker Audio (Norcross, Georgia), the same company that currently maintains Turner Field and designed the sound system in the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in 1966 that originally lured the big league Braves to the region. Surveying the field of loudspeakers capable of delivering big league sound at minor league prices, Danley SH-100s were the clear winners and now cover all of the main seating areas. more
Elmont, Long Island, NY – May 2010… When it comes to horse racing, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone unfamiliar with venues such as Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, or the Saratoga Race Course. All three properties are operated by the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA), the not-for-profit corporation that runs the three largest thoroughbred horse-racing tracks in New York State. Depending upon who one speaks with, betting on the horses is serious business—or is seriously fun. Either way, betters rely on closed circuit television feeds to make informed decisions—such as handicapping considerations— before placing their hard earned dollars on the line. This information comes by way of interviews and, for this purpose, the on-air talent use wireless systems from Lectrosonics. more
