Training and support pioneers take up residence in Music City with co-founder Jayce Murphy at the helm

BUENA PARK, Calif.—With his knack for infectious hooks, Florida vocalist Jason Derulo built his reputation as a prolific soul and rap songwriter, scribing tracks for artists ranging from Lil Wayne to Pleasure P. This past year, Derulo has been riding high with three smash hit singles, “Whatcha Say,� “In My Head,� and “Ridin’ Solo,� off his self-titled debut album.
Completing his first leg of his North American tour in mid-November, Derulo, needing a monitor engineer/audio crew chief for the tour, enlisted the assistance of Billy Flores, ME to pop stars such as Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, Erykah Badu, and Taio Cruz. Flores, who mixes monitors using only a Yamaha PM5D, said the tour had already been using a PM5D internationally as requested by Derulo. “The tour manager needed someone with a good grasp of the desk for the U.S. leg,� states Flores.

Stefan Happe has joined HARMAN to run the Studer Customer Service team based in Regensdorf, near Zurich, Switzerland.
With experience in recording and broadcast (he started his audio life as a recording and mastering engineer) and live sound (running a PA rental company which included Soundcraft consoles in its inventory), he spent several years with, Mackie based in Germany as product manager in the boadcast market and more recently in the UK to head up European Service and Support.

OSLO, Norway—Martin Audio today announced its first Scandinavian customer for the Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array, (MLA). Norwegian rental company Rubicon AS purchased an MLA rig consisting of 20 MLA top boxes, 12 MLX subs, and four MLD Downfill enclosures, from their local distributor, em nordic AS.
The move follows major system purchases by launch customers Complete Audio of Germany and North Carolina-based Special Event Services (SES)—who last month added a second system to their existing MLA arsenal.
By purchasing 36 enclosures, Rubicon, who specialize in a wide range of work from festivals to corporate events and one-off club gigs, will be able to divide the rig into two separate systems where necessary, having doubled up on the power distribution and control.
