Doors’ co-founder Ray Manzarek is recording a new album, “Translucent Blues,” with slide guitar legend Roy Rogers, known for his work with John Lee Hooker. Manzarek has picked the TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik CU-29 Copperhead, a brand-new microphone with a sonic fingerprint that breaks the tradition of classic mics of the past.
“This is a microphone built for the blues,” remarked Manzarek. “I come from the Southside of Chicago, and I want my new work to reflect the integrity of those roots. The Copperhead mic has an abundance of bottom end and a clarity that hides nothing. more
With a full television crew recording his every move, and ‘meet and greet’ packages at every show, singer/songwriter/showman Peter André’s big arena tour this December would not make life easy for the production company.
But for Mark ‘Knocker’ Neil’s sound and lighting company Production Hire, the budget thrown at the stage and set design for this extravagant show could hardly have been more generous, as he rigged three different Martin Audio line array systems scalable to the different venue capacities.
At the UK’s largest arena, O2 in London, his main weapon was the W8L Longbow—13 elements a side, plus two W8LD downfill boxes at the base. Borrowing a couple of enclosures a side from Capital Sound Hire for this gig, Production Hire nonetheless serviced all remaining UK arenas from their own inventory—including hangs of W8LC Compacts for sidefill or main PA duties, eight LE700 stage wedges and some more

At Harbor Park in Norfolk, Virginia, home to Minor League Baseball’s Norfolk Tides, a new JBL VLA line array system gave the team’s stadium a sonic refresher that both vastly improved the sound on the field and did so very cost-effectively. Two clusters, each containing six JBL VLA 901 speakers with 90-degree horizontal horn coverage patterns offer fans exceptional sound and high intelligibility while staying within both the team’s budget and the physical limitations of the park.
“It was challenging because we could only work within the space that was already there, said Tom “T Brockenbrough, Project Manager for Onyx AudioVisual, the systems integrator for the project. Due to budget constraints, the system design and installation teams replacing the PA system were required to use the same sofitted set-backs in the outfield wall of Harbor Park, which was completed in 1993. Furthermore, the soffits could not be accessed more

Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy – December 2010… First opened to the public in 1928, Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia has a storied history as home to the Atalanta and Albinoleffe football teams. With a seating capacity of 24,726, the field is 120 meters long and 70 meters wide with grandstand seating that is only partially covered. Sound reinforcement was, until recently, a sore subject for attendees of the aging stadium’s various events.
