BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – JULY 2011: A beloved household name in Boston, Jerry Remy is a former Red Sox second baseman and the longstanding commentator for all of his former team’s games. Last year, he partnered with the Cronin Group Restaurants to create Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill just outside of historic Fenway Park. The venture was so successful that the group recently opened a second location at Liberty Wharf on Boston Harbor. An adjacent public dock with fifty slips allows patrons to arrive by land or by sea. LONDON, ENGLAND: Gareth Jones is well known for producing ground-breaking albums with ground-breaking artists, such as Depeche Mode, Wire, and Erasure, and he continues to work with their next generation heirs, such as Interpol, Grizzly Bear, and Mogwai. From the start, Jones has been a technological pioneer, blazing trails down which the masses later followed. Jones was an early adopter of digital recording technologies and is today considered one of the world’s foremost experts on the Logic Audio recording, mixing, and editing platform. Relatively recently in the context of his long career, Jones outfitted his studio – which is by necessity mobile – with a pair of Metric Halo FireWire interfaces, that provide him with sixteen studio-grade mic preamps, sixteen channels of AD and DA, powerful DSP processing, 80-bit master summing, and – taken together – the flexibility to do what needs to be done, whatever the circumstance.

JUPITER ENTERS THE MINES

sdsmt_arch.JPG

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA: In addition to providing a top-tier education to 2,300 students, the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, or “Mines” for short, provides the venue for the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Crackerbarrel sessions. They allow the public to voice its concerns and ideas with the local governing bodies. The Crackerbarrel sessions and several of the Mines’ larger lecture classes take place in the main auditorium of the New Classroom Building. Built in the mid-1990s, the auditorium seats seven hundred in a pie-shaped, multi-tiered room that can be divided via an air-wall into two 350-seat rooms. After two failed attempts to supply the large room with an intelligible, easy-to-use sound reinforcement system, local A/V integrator Haggerty’s Audio Visual supplied the master stroke. The new system centers on Symetrix’ new Jupiter “zero learning curve” processor with a pair of Symetrix ARC-2 wall panel remotes that more

The London based company supplied a Synco by Martin Audio PA, a custom designed Synco sub-bass array and Synco stage monitor systems. Additional crew and matching equipment came from Ampco Flashlight of Holland.

The PA consisted of a Martin Audio W8L Longbow rig, with a total of 64 cabinets flown in 16-deep dual inner and outer main PA hangs per side, with an additional 64 W8LCs flown in four delay positions, all timed using Smaart. Visiting sound crews were unanimous in their praise for the Longbow system, which kept the Pyramid Stage buzzing throughout the three days in which U2, Coldplay and Beyoncé headlined.

A cardioid broadside sub-bass array of 36 Synco triple-18 woofers, custom made for the Synco Network by Martin Audio, had been refined over the past three years, more
