Director Eric Howell’s “Ana’s Playground,� on which Pieklo filled Sound Editor and Sound Designer roles, recently made the Academy’s Short List for the 2011 Live-Action Short Film Oscar. Additionally, Director Brady Kiernan brought his feature, “Stuck Between Stations,� to Splice and Pieklo for all sound post-production services. The film premiered with four sold-out screenings at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival in April 2011.

On Sunday, May 15, 2011, First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the keynote graduation address to the 2011 class of Spelman College. The graduation event took place at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The Convention Center hall is huge, approximately 200 feet wide by 420 feet deep and able to hold in excess of 10,000 people. Rising Pop/Operatic Star Shines in New Disney Pearl Album

Rising pop/operatic star Nathan Pacheco and producer/composer Leo-Z picked the new TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik ELA M 251T large diaphragm, vintage tube, condenser microphone for Pacheco’s debut on the Disney Pearl Series label. The album was recorded with full orchestra at Air Lyndhurst in London, at EASTWEST recording studios in Hollywood, and at Leo-Z’s private studio, and was mixed by the renowned Michael Brauer.

Joel Iwataki Returns for #1 Summer Blockbuster Starring James Franco

Engineer Joel Iwataki mixed the provocative score for the #1 film in North America, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” at Ocean Way’s Record One Recording Studios in LA. Original music was composed by Patrick Doyle, known for scoring such films as “Thor,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” and “Bridget Jones’ Diary.”
Iwataki previously mixed the score for the #1 film “Battle: Los Angeles” at Record One, which houses the former Todd-AO scoring stage console: a 96-input SSL 9000J with Shawn Murphy modifications and a film scoring monitor section.
