Newark, NJ – November 2009… The recent 9th Annual New Jersey International Music Festival, which featured a dream team of international reggae and hip-hop stars, including “Mr. Throw it in the Bag” Fabolous, the “King of Dance Hall” Beenie Man, Buju Banton, and Rick Ross among others, presented a unique set of challenges for the performers and technical staff tasked with making it all happen. Held September 20^th, 2009 at the Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, the on stage real estate proved to be in rather short supply. As a result, erecting a sound system capable of providing consistent coverage with solid SPL performance to the roughly 5,000 music enthusiasts in attendance was no small undertaking. Hartley Peavey’s mission to restore the sound of the historic Hamasa Shrine Temple Theater in his hometown of Meridian, Miss., is more than just a professional challenge. It’s personal.

Joseph Lane Peavey, the Peavey Electronics Corporation founder and CEO’s grandfather, was very active in the Hamasa Shriners—his name is even engraved on the Moorish Revival theater’s cornerstone. Like Hartley, J.L. Peavey was an entrepreneur and an inventor with many patents to his credit. Hartley inherited his collection of hand tools when he passed in 1955, and two years later used those tools to build the first Peavey amplifier.

 Debut of 8260A Monitors Demos New Stereo-to-5.1 Process

At this year’s AES Convention in NYC, Genelec’s DSP Multichannel Monitoring System was used to demonstrate the new Penteo Surround process, which automatically converts stereo material into 5.1 audio. The Genelec system consists of 3 x 8260A monitors (a new AES product unveiling) in an L-C-R arrangement, 2 x 8240A for the rear channels, and a 7270A subwoofer. Penteo Surround is featured in the hit film “Inglourious Basterds,” with classics such as David Bowie’s “Cat People” in newly upmastered 5.1 Surround.
