Marc Lopez, newly promoted to the Marketing Mgr spot at Yamaha Commercial Audio, showed me some impressive upgrades to some of their existing products. The new DSP-5D is literally a PM5D in a box offering 48 inputs and DSP, and is controllable either from a PM5D console or an LS9 console. They also showed the DM2000 VCM which adds a bevy of new effects and other processing to the DM2000. All new consoles ship with the package and it is also avaialble as an upgrade. Marc goes over the whole system in our Day 3 Podcast.
This HUGE tower is on an 8,000 lb. ENG van parked between the halls in the demo area. There’s all kinds of interesting stuff out there including daylight video displays, Hummers with satellite uplinks, large remote trucks and more.
I interviewed Claude Cellier from Merging Technologies for our show closer Podcast and got an overview of new products that are pretty darn interesting. They’ve collaborated with Smart AV and came up with the Ramses control surface, a cool looking controller for Pyramix. The Sphynx 3 I/O boxes are also impressive offering a number of options, even embedded mic preamps. The whole rig MADIs out to the CPU so you can have the preamps close to the source. They’re also unveling Pyramix 6 soon which will offer the first 48 channel DSD/DXD capability ever.
Sony Pro Audio was showing the digital wireless system incorporating the DWT-B01/DWR-S01D/DWA-01D, featuring a digital modulator and encryption scheme. Seems everyone wants security, with good reason. The system in place in L.A., working a reality show, is capable of 12 channels simultaneously on a 6 MHz bandwidth TV channel.
Here with man-about-town Nate Cooper from Studio Network Solutions. He’s now running around L.A. and drumming up business on the lots, in the post houses and anywhere else they’ll have him. But right now, he’s got a hot new product named EVO. Nate?
Thanks Tom, I’m just powering through day three of NAB. I think the entire floor is hung over at this point, but I do believe you were the one that told me the real business happens after 11pm and always over drinks…
So, I’m excited as we just released our new video storage solution. I won’t get too technical but anything you want storage wise is built into one box. 1Gb iSCSI, 4Gb Fibre, 10Gb iSCSI, SAN and NAS. Pretty much it’s gonna take over the storage world, not that were too cocky about it. Anyhow, thanks for letting me blog about our new toys. Cheers.
Mix Features Editor Sarah Jones is keeping track of her NAB mileage with a cool little pedometer. Did you know it’s 1/4 mile from the North Hall to the Hilton Lobby? I’m thinking the South Hall must be nearly a mile from the Hilton and I know I’ve walked at least a few miles a day in my booth travels (with a broken toe no less!). I wonder if I can take the mileage off my taxes?
No, that’s not how many steps I’ve logged with my sassy new pedometer. It’s the official headcount here at this behemoth show. This year’s the biggest ever, and since it’s our last day, we still have a lot more booths to hit before we leave. Stay tuned!
There were a lot of great products on the floor today and I got around to a lot of them! Click here to check out our Day 2 Podcast from NAB featuring interviews with Bob Heil, SSL, Sennheiser, DPA, PrismSound and Euphonix.

LightViper knows fibre. The company was started by ex-military contractors who worked in a context where quality is a must. They’ve carried this mantra through to their commercial products that transports large sums of audio over long distance ligntning quick. Their latest card set works in Yamaha consoles with Y slots. For a full run-through on the product, check out our Day 3 Podcast.

Euphonix’s new S5 Fusion is one pretty desk. It’s not only easy on the eyes but it offers 24 channel strips, a master module and a blank module with screen for the eMix software and optional motor joysticks. Each channel strip includes a multi-format moving fader, 8 touch-sensitive knobs for EQ, filters, compressor, expander/gate, aux, pan, and TDM, VST, and Audio Units DAW plug-in control. The high-resolution screens show multi-format metering, track info and routing display. Check out my run-through on the desk on tonite’s Podcast
